What We Know So Far

Improved Performance

The 2021 Volkswagen Golf R will come equipped with an upgraded 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that is expected to produce as much as 330 horsepower. By comparison, the 2019 Gold R's turbo-four got 288 horsepower, so the step up in performance is quite noticeable. The 2021 Golf R's engine will be mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission as well as the 4Motion All-Wheel Drive system.

Style and Features

Claremore and Bixby drivers should be very excited about what the 2021 Volkswagen Golf R brings to the table. It will come with a dual-display dashboard, very similar to the one found in the Golf Mk8. There is also a sports steering wheel, and drivers can likely expect sports seats, Alcantara surface materials, as well as carbon fiber and aluminum trims to bring the entire package together.

Release Date

While there isn't a concrete release date, there is a fairly safe window that we can expect to see the new Golf R. Provided current world events don't interfere, the Volkswagen is expected to make the 2021 Golf R's unveiling sometime in the middle of 2020 with July's Goodwood Festival of Speed a possibility. The new GTI will launch ahead of the Golf R, which would put an arrival date at Don Thornton Volkswagen of Tulsa sometime in late 2020 or early 2021.
