Volkswagen Helps Cherokee National Forest with Conservation Fund Partnership

The long-time German automaker has always advertised its Drive Bigger motto to create an image of chasing and acting on bigger ideas. One of these bigger ideas applies to the Cherokee National Forest - located on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Through partnering with The Conservation Fund, Volkswagen plans to defend this cherished wilderness area against development. In 2019, Volkswagen donated $1.2 million to increase the overall size of Tennessee's Cherokee National Forest.

Why Volkswagen Partnered with The Conservation Fund

Sustainability has always been a priority for Volkswagen. Using its resources for environmental efforts has allowed the German automaker to become a noted corporate leader in the communities it serves. It chose to partner with The Conservation Fund because of the organization's impact in the areas of wildlife, land, water, restoration, and more. This partnership will give Volkswagen the chance to be a promoter of land conservation while helping to preserve natural resources in the Cherokee National Forest.

The goal with The Conservation Fund partnership is adding 1,500 acres to the Cherokee National Forest near the Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant. These additional lands will be made public for recreation and to boost the populations of wild animals like the black bear and Indiana bat, which is currently an endangered species. Currently, this area runs the length of the eastern border of Tennessee. The Cherokee National Forest includes Trail of Tears National Historic Trail and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
